My Daily Protocol

Without specific evidence for COVID-19, the following lists of recommended products are drawn from peer-reviewed research papers covering the effectiveness of these supplements and drugs on SARS and MERS viruses, as well as on other coronaviruses plus the influenza virus and its strains.

Many doctors and other experts have made recommendations; my list and summary represents a selection from what I think are the most trusted sources of reliable information. References will be added at the bottom.

I take these supplements daily during “sick season,” in addition to my daily regimen.

Prophylaxis:

To prevent or minimize the effects of a virus or other illness, I take the following supplements during this period of virus and illness. There are less expensive options available, but ingredient quality and ease of absorption are my primary criteria:

Vitamin C   500 mg once or twice a day.

Vitamin D3+K2  5,000 IU once a day

Zinc Picolinate  30 mg twice a day   OR
This looks to be a good alternative zinc supplement, with a better price:
Zinc Picolinate from NOW  50 mg once a day

Quercetin  250 mg once a day

N-acetyl cysteine (NAC)  600 mg twice a day

Melatonin  12 mg before bedtime


If Sick:

Since people typically don’t start feeling sick until about five days (and up to two weeks) after they contract the virus, and it takes another week for symptoms to get bad enough to require a trip to the emergency department, I know that I have to contain the virus and prevent replication as quickly as possible.

The virus will take hold and replicate in the throat, mouth and nasal passages before it moves into the lungs and other body systems. My first line of defense is to make sure that it cannot live in the usual “ports of entry” including eyes, nose, and mouth. 


Namaste Supplements’ Propolis Throat Spray acts as a surfactant in your throat, breaking down the lipids that make up the protective membrane of corona virus. I spray this natural immune builder and protector on the roof of my mouth and back of my throat before going to sleep, upon awakening, and whenever I come into contact with others who may be exposed or infected. If sick, I will use the spray hourly or whenever my throat feels unusual.

Vitamin C   500 mg every two hours, until bowel tolerance is reached.
